A mind-body practice that combines physical postures, breathing, and mindfulness.
Yoga is a mind and body practice with origins in ancient Indian philosophy. The various styles of yoga typically combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation.
Heather Henry, who teaches yoga here at Integrative Therapies, describes yoga as "...essentially the experience of presence. Drawing together one's mental, physical, emotional and spiritual bodies into a unified field and open the energy pathways within. This practice may include asanas (postures), pranayama (breathwork), meditation or other techniques. Living in a world where we are often fragmented and disassociated from one or more parts of ourselves, yoga offers a method to come back in tune with our true divine nature."
Heather Henry has been teaching yoga for over 15 years. She studied energy therapies at Windemere Institute of Healing Arts and recently completed her certificate in Ayurvedic counseling at Kanyakumari in Milwaukee, WI.
